My new year hopes should bear fruit with my firefighter novel Final Response being marketed in eBook and paperback formats followed throughout the year by Old Flames and Gerry’s War. Several of my juveniles should see the light of day with Be That Books publishing. Tina, its prez, is a friend of mine and is venturing out for fiction. When we met in December she said she’d take some of them on. I’ll also do some tweaking to Out on A Limb and The Blob…In My Shoes.
I’ve embarked on a new novel Tequila and Coca-Cola set in Mexico where I occasionally visit for a few months. I’ve got 4 chapters done and haven’t decided who the bad guys are yet but I think I’ll make the characters quirky and some very flawed.
http//www.summitstudios.biz/bookstore.asp The publisher of Mob Hit On My Grandmother’s Dog (animal humor compilation) added a few lines to my story I’d rather remove, including some in my brief bio. But it’s out for sale now. No check yet, though. Diane Tolley, another Beaumont writer, also has a story in it and we’ll try to get some press. I’m donating a signed copy by us to the local library
My newest story Car Wash Kitty will be in the compilation and a new member of my writers group also has a story in there. Diane Tolley has one about pulling the tongues of the UK palace guard horses. Very cool for Beaumont, a small town. See the Beaumont News picture of us in the Published Works tab on this site.
My newest short story is finally going to see ink. Summit Studios will finally publish their anthology and my masterpiece will be in it. I can’t remember which title he chose: Car Wash Kitty or Binky’s Day Out. It’ll be out late October or early November. It’s the true story of when I took my sister’s cat thru the car wash, albeit toned down a bit. I had posted this story on a CBC on-line writing competition and some people did not like the way I treated the cat in the story. But that’s the CBC types for you.
I can’t believe I’m already trying to book a winter escape. It’s August and it’s hot here in Alberta. Florida is expensive because it’s high season in Feb. and March and almost everything for a two bedroom, two-month rental is booked–so booked, they’re taking reservations for 2016. Last winter California was easy–hook up the trailer in Feb. and go south; low season there, too.
I’ve been searching Trip Advisor, HomeAway, VRBO, and AirBnB until my eyes are bloodshot. I’ve zeroed in on Luquilla in north-east Puerto Rico. It’s near a National Forest, a bio-luminescent bay, some cheap street eats nearby, close to a ferry for some outer island experiences. Unfortunately, PR has no structured bus system so it’s rent a car or fight with cab drivers.
My middle grade eBooks summer sale at Smashwords runs until the end of July. I’m a bit late on the news but better now than never

Unfortunately they only ask for a 150-250 word sample which is quite small so if you’re submitting, those words better be dynamite. The agent Peter Knapp looks pretty darn young for a guy with so much experience. I’m going to submit Voodoo Bully because everyone who’s read it likes it a lot including the Bookkus reader/reviewers.
The best and most critical of reviewers on the Bookkus.com site gave Voodoo Bully a rave review:
“It’s very well written, with many delightful turns of phrase. A marvelous voice, a charming character and an entertaining, quirky tale. This very appealing critter (Evens, the protagonist) is an updated Huck Finn.”
Yes, she said,”Huck Finn!”
Returned from 7 weeks in California–top to bottom with the 5th wheel, and am ready to go. Writers group has a new member. My firefighter short story collection is coming along. Waiting on Summit Studios for a check and ETA of the anthology with my cat story. Waiting on word from Tina O’Connor if she’ll take on my juveniles. Also sent her some ideas for firefighter picture books. Doing some novel editing. Getting psyched for walleye fishing in a few weeks. Already got the motor on the boat.
My son William figured the old cover pic wasn’t very good so we can up with another. The text has a skewed logic. If you have any comments, I’d like to hear from you.
